Cetinje, the old Montenegro capital, is located just below the tips of Lovcen, at 680m above sea level. Cetinje was the last strong point of Ivan Crnojevic. Here he built a Palace in 1482, and two years later the Cetinje Monastery. Above the Monastery is the Tabalja Tower, and at the town Square the fortified Biljarda Palace. Of the significant buildings in Cetinje it is inevitable to mention the Duke's Palace and the street in which were once located all diplomatic missions of the great powers.
The Montenegrin people say that Rijeka Crnojevica was made of tears shed by Ivo Crnojevic because of the suffering of his people. It is situated in a deep sunken mouth of the river of the same name. It was built on the outskirts of the town of Obod to which Ivan Crnojevic moved when the Turks conquered Zabljak. The King Nikola built his winter residence Ljeskovac there. The old stone bridge, a symbol of the own dates from that time.
The capital of Montenegro is located in the vast Zeta Valley, on six rivers, in the foothills of Gorica Hill. The first settlement of Butziminium on the delta of Ribnica and Moraca Rivers was built by the Romans. Slovenes named it Ribnica and since 1326 it is mentioned as Podgorica. In the vicinity of the city are the significant archaeological locality Duklja and the ancient Illyrian fortification of Medun. The Turks built the Depedogen Fortress and the Allied Forces during WWII totally destroyed the city.
The spacious Niksic field was settled by the Illyrians, Romans, Goths, Slovenes and numerous un-named people who before them discovered this pleasant district (Zupa) surrounded by high mountains. In 1518 the Slovene name of Onogost was changed into the present name. The original settlement and fortification on the Bedem Hill is reconstructed and is used now as a summer theater. King Nikola Palace is now a museum, and the Onogost brewery also has historical significance as the famous "Niksic beer" is being produced in it for the last one hundred years. Antiquities worth mentioning are the Tsar's Bridge, Roman Bridge, the Cathedral (Saborna crkva) and numerous tombstones. The tourist offer is supplemented by the Krupacko and Slano Lakes as well as the ski terrains of Vucije.
